Claires Court Orchestral Day Raises The Roof

On Friday 2 February, 50 pupils from three local schools, Claires Court, Danesfield, and Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, all came together to take part in Claires Court annual Orchestral Day.

Boys and girls, aged between 7 and 18, took part in singing, sectional and full orchestra workshops, led by instrumental staff from Claires Court.

Anna Smith, Head of School at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, commented:

“We came to the Orchestral Day as a school for the first time this year and four of our pupils took part. They’d never played in an orchestra before, so it was a great experience for them. We had such a lovely time and were made to feel very welcome. I felt very privileged to be there, listening to all the young musicians produce such wonderful music – it was remarkable that they’d never played together before!”

The whole ensemble learnt four pieces, 'I know where I'm going’, ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Suo Gan’ and ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’. These pieces, as well as several solo performances, were played at the end of the day in a concert attended by parents and visitors.

Jamie, Danesfield School pupil, aged 7, said:

“I play the trombone and I really enjoyed being at the Orchestral Day because it’s great to be part of a big orchestra, and nice to see how other people play. I came to the Orchestral Day two years ago so I was keen to come back again this year because it’s really fun and the biggest orchestra I’ve ever played in.”

Director of Music at Claires Court Senior Boys, Adrian Roach, added:

“The day provided an opportunity for pupils to work collaboratively and develop their ensemble skills. It went really well with everyone having a great time playing alongside other musicians.”
