From the Office
From the Academic Principal
Since the start of term, and for the next week or so we have planned welcomes for a number of mothers and their children entering the school after two months as refugees from the war in Ukraine. They have had a terrible time since leaving their country as refugees two months ago, many directly from the war zones we now see on the news broadcasts from the front line in Kiev and Odessa. They leave behind not just their homes, professions and businesses completely devastated, but also their parents, husbands, brothers, sons and brothers who are on the front line in the military, or too old to make the journey west.
For the moment, effectively there is nothing more we can do other than create a warm and welcoming home for the children, build opportunities for familiarisation around their supporting families here, and understand more how best to support some very proud and fiercely independent people who have lost everything material that we take for granted.
Thank goodness for the internet, as our images and stories from Claires Court are able to reach those back home; as one father wrote to me this morning (Thursday) "I like the way Claires Court cares about pupils and being M's father I am always willing to support my family whenever it's possible. Please kindly keep me updated when I can help."
Diamond Ball on 11 June - tickets!
With just five weeks to go before the first parent school ball in a couple of years, we’d love to see as many of our parent community as possible there! There are a few tables left and as we have said before, it doesn't matter if you don’t have a fixed group of parent friends, you are welcome to join an Icebreaker table where you’ll meet other parents.
Tickets are just £85 for the evening which includes a three-course meal, live band, silent auction, dancing and lots of fun. To book, or to ask any questions, please email Anna from the PTA on annat_w@hotmail.com
