Years 3 - 6
In Year 3, pupils are taught by their form tutor for English and Maths and have specialist teachers for some of their other subjects.
As they progress, boys organisation and independence skills are developed, along with the desire to challenge themselves and the resilience to keep trying and never give up. As they move into Year 4, with their growing maturity and understanding of the work, pupils are encouraged to develop an even more studious approach to their learning. Emphasis is placed on questioning ideas and taking on more complex concepts.
From Year 4, pupils are taught by their form tutor for at least one of the core subjects, but most of the other timetabled lessons are taught by subject specialists. Organisational and collaborative skills are enhanced and by Year 5 pupils are more aware of their own preferred ways of learning. The boys will also learn Spanish in Year 5 and 6.
You can find out more about how the subjects are taught and our approach to reading, spelling and handwriting in the relevant curriculum statements.
