Creative Arts
ART
Art reflects the termly topic girls are focusing on. Reception are introduced to colour mixing to create self-portraits for their 'Me, Myself and I' topic. Year 6, when investigating the Egyptians, research, design and make elaborate pendants, whilst Year 3 use charcoal to create shadows and Year 2 build working lighthouses.
DRAMA
Drama is used to support and explore creativity, imagination, confidence and language skills. All Junior Girls have an opportunity to shine at our Christmas productions but performing isn’t constricted to the big show stoppers; girls often take the stage during assemblies, Prize Giving and talent shows. LAMDA qualifications are offered as part of our curriculum; girls have the opportunity to achieve graded awards for public speaking, recital and acting skills.
MUSIC
At Claires Court Junior Girls we foster a supportive and exciting environment, with Music making at its centre. We do this by:
- Encouraging and developing pupils interest, knowledge and enjoyment of music.
- Building a creative and innovative musical environment.
- Showcasing high quality musicianship.
Based on the principles of the Kodaly method, we provide an engaging curriculum. From Reception, your daughter will learn music through singing; games; rhythmic sounds and movement, building confidence and skills through practical activities. As well as timetabled class lessons, girls learn the recorder in Years 2 and 3 and either the Cello, Violin or Flute in the Year 4 instrumental project.
We offer a range of extra-curricular activities:
- Ensemble
- Junior Choir
- Guitar Ensemble
- Trio
There are ongoing opportunities for all pupils to perform, including concerts such as the Christmas production and community events, often in partnership with the Junior Boys. Your daughter will have the opportunity to learn an instrument or take singing lessons, as we are supported by a team of experienced peripatetic staff providing lessons in: Violin, Cello, Double Bass, Brass, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Piano, Singing, Contemporary Singing, Classical Guitar, Rock Guitar, Drums.
