Fieldwork bubbles and data collection

Last half term our Year 13 A level Geography students visited the Highcliffe coastline in Dorset as a crucial part of the Geographical Skills part of the course. With their residential fieldwork opportunity being affected by Covid last April, and their independent investigation still being worth 20% of their final A level, it was important for the students to learn how to undertake practical physical geography fieldwork techniques as well as understanding sampling strategies and recapping coastal processes and landforms from earlier in Year 12.

The students threw themselves into the day and engaged really positively with all the activities, enabling them to put these skills into practice as many undertook their own primary data collection across the half term break. Jo Andrews, Sixth Form Geography, commented: “I was impressed with how they understood the need for us to maintain our educational bubble throughout the day, and on top of that, they were great company! Well done Year 13. I'm looking forward to seeing some excellent independent investigations being completed over the next few weeks.”
