Junior Boys Swimming Galas 2017

Over the past two weeks the Junior Boys swimming galas have taken place, giving all boys a chance to showcase their hard work in lessons and skills learned.
Mrs Karin Whiteley, Swimming Teacher summed up the events:
On Wednesday 14 June a bright sunny blue sky greeted us all, just in time for our first swimming gala. The roof of the pool was opened and lots of parents came to support our boys and to get wet, sitting in the splash zone!
Mr Spanswick opened the event and then the Reception boys took to the water first. They were split into three groups and each group spent twenty minutes in the pool with myself and Mr Denton demonstrating their swimming skills. The boys have worked incredibly hard all year and have made steady progress. They were ecstatic when they were presented with their medals afterwards.
Next Year 1 and Year 2 boys were lined up to swim their races. Mrs Whiteley had a true dream team at her disposal to help run the gala, with Mr Grose as chief timekeeper, Mr Denton as starter and Mr Pennington organising the boys into the right lanes things could only run swimmingly!
Our very switched on Year 6 boys were timekeeping and two of our Year 5 life guards kept a vigilant eye on the little boys in the water, just in case of sudden nerves kicking in.
For the first time ever some of the Year 1 boys competed in the butterfly, a great achievement for children so young. All the boys in Year 1 and 2 competed in the other strokes and at the end a doggie paddle race to finish put a smile on everyone's face. The inter-house woggle train race closed the event with lots of noise from both parents and boys. A wonderful day was had by everyone involved.
On Friday 16 June it was the turn of the Year 5 and 6 boys to compete in their gala. Thanks to the weather gods cooperating the swimming pool roof was opened once again making it a very pleasant atmosphere for the boys to swim… and compete they certainly did! Many personal records were improved on and the level of commitment from all the boys was a joy to see. With the dream team back in action and the help of our timekeepers and the class teachers this event was a huge success also.
Our talented photographer Mr Rowan has posted many wonderful photos which you can view by clicking on the links below. Only the Year 3 and Year 4 boys are still to have their gala which will take place on 23 June, we will share pictures next week.
