Rachel and Robyn to Represent Berkshire
This year 12 girls were selected from the district trials to represent Windsor & Maidenhead at the County Championships, the most amount of girls selected to compete in several years.
U13’s (Year 7) Yasmin Paton (600m), Louisa Matton (discus), Maddie Ingoldsby (HJ), Jess Holmes (75m) and Freya Wilson (70m hurdles) all competed with determination and focus in their events resulting in some truly wonderful performances.
U15’s (Year 8 & 9) Rachel Okoro (long jump gold) became County Champion, Annabelle Ruinet (75m hurdles, 3rd in heat) and Lana Wallis (javelin - bronze) all held their own in what was a really tough series of events where they competed against top club athletes, well done girls!
U17’s (Year 10 & 11) Cleo Sloggett finished fifth in the triple jump, whilst Izzy Byrne finished fifth in the 100m finals, both girls competing against Year 11 pupils and hopefully they will both be selected next year with another years experience under their belts to come back to the county field in a stronger position. Robyn, Year 11 ran a truly superb 800m race (a relatively new event for her) where she held off really tough opposition to finish first (County Champion) in an impressive time of 2mins 16.3secs. Unfortunately Allegra Slater couldn’t compete due to an injury she sustained at the regional round.
From the County Championships, Rachel Okoro (Long Jump) and Robyn Watkins (800m) were both selected to represent Berkshire at the English Schools event, which is the most prestigious of all athletics competitions for a school pupil. It truly is extremely difficult to win a county title, let alone be selected to represent Berkshire at the English Schools Championships and these two girls really do deserve all the credit they get. Congratulations to both Rachel and Robyn, we look forward to letting you know how they got on in July.
