Berkhamsted 6-a-side Tournament

The Claires Court U11A team fielded a 6-a-side team at the annual Berkhamsted cricket tournament. Mr Butterfield gives us account of the boys’ performance:

Game 1: We narrowly lost the first match against a spirited Aldwickbury team who despite being 4-3 in the first over came back to post 57-4 in their 6 overs. A hard hitting 20 from Dempster was not enough to chase their total.

Aldwickbury 57-4
CCJB 43-5
Lost by 14 runs

Game 2: The Berkhamsted opener smashed 39 to put them in a good position. Stewart took 4 wickets in one over to peg their total back to 63. However, their bowling was not so strong and we raced to their total in 4.5 overs with Shepherd 18*, Stewart 13* and Dempster 18 (including a 6 into the road) scoring the bulk of the runs.

Berkhamsted B 63-4Berkhamsted Tournament
CCJB 64-3 (4.5 overs)
Won by 3 wickets

Game 3: Batting first Stewart 33* and Shepherd 15 helped CCJB to 56-1 in their 6 overs. We restricted St Johns through tight bowling and committed fielding. 3 more wickets for Stewart.

CCJB 56-1
St John's 49-4
Won by 7 runs

Game 4: this game was nicely poised with both teams needing a win to go through to the 1st v 1st final. The Beacon posted a strong 62 and we fell short to the tournament’s eventual winners by 19 runs.

Beacon 62-2
CCJB 43-5
Lost by 19 runs

Game 5: Finishing 3rd in the group we proceeded to the 3rd vs 3rd match. The boys produced a performance that typified their season. When we didn't post that many runs on a variable surface, we all feared a defeat, especially when the Gayhurst opener hit a glorious 4 through cover in the first over. The boys pulled together and did not give up at any time. This led to a few wickets -  Thomas with 2 and Welch with 2 in the last over. Their team spirit won us that match in a nail biting finish.

CCJB 43-3
Gayhurst 41-5
Won by 2 runs

Well done to all the boys who took part:

Stewart, Shepherd, Dempster, Thomas, Welch, Jones and Todd.

Taking 11 wickets over the day, Louis Stewart won Bowler of the Tournament for his excellent spells of leg spin bowling.
