Berkhamsted Swimming Gala

After all of Junior Boys in-house swimming galas, a team was of sixteen boys were selected to swim for the Berkhamsted Cup. Mrs Karin Whiteley, their coach shares the delights of the day with us:
We took four of the fastest swimmers from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 and travelled to Berkhamsted for a 16.30 start. We competed in this event the first time last year and it's a very well run gala with a great atmosphere.
And what a wonderful day it turned out to be for our swimmers. Five of our boys won their individual races, three boys came in second and three boys achieved third place. This means that eleven out of sixteen boys were in the top three! The relays were very exciting with our Year 3 and 4 medley team winning first place and the freestyle team winning second place. Our Year 5 and 6 team achieved third place in both the medley and the freestyle relay.
The last event was a squadron freestyle relay which consisted of two swimmers per year group, so eight swimmers per team. This was a very exciting race to watch and even better… we won!!!
Considering we train in a shallow, 12 meter pool without starting blocks, and some of the boys had never been to a gala, we were absolutely delighted to walk away in the end with an overall silver medal for our team. Beating schools like St. Martins, Caldicot and one of the Berkhamsted teams was a great achievement.
What a wonderful finish to our swimming year. Well done boys!
