Experiencing the Civil War

History came to life in an interactive Civil War Day. On Wednesday Year 8 girls and boys experienced the English Civil War at close quarters!
Hands On History visited, dressing up the pupils (and some teachers!) as Roundheads and Cavaliers and immersing all in 17th Century England both at war and after. Pupils learned about, weaponry and17th Century trades such as clerk, cobbler and carpenter, by handling artefacts and the furs of wolf, deer and fox. The pupils were also shocked to find one of their teachers in need of a leg amputation and have this performed in front of their very eyes!
Jenny Wilding, Head of History at Senior Boys said;
“This was a truly worthwhile day, enabling Year 8 to appreciate similarities and differences between our own time and life in the past.”
