Claires Court Senior Girls  acted and sang their hearts out when performing Willy Russell’s Our Day Out on Tuesday 30 June and Wednesday 1 July. Paul Bevis, Headteacher Girls and Sixth Form, gave a detailed account of the event in last week’s bulletin:

“There are moments when our young people begin to understand the opportunities that are available to them and how their lives are not necessarily the same as everybody else’s.

One such moment occurred this week when we presented to enthusiastic audiences of parents, relatives and friends our production ‘Our Day Out’. This recounts the experiences of a class of children ‘the Progress Class’ when they are on a school trip, and the different ways that the staff and coach driver relate with and react to them as both individual and as a class. It is always difficult for a company to switch from comedy to action, then to pathos and then back to comedy, but they did it with aplomb. To see them present characters that saw no future for themselves, or did not want to go home, or the day to end, who had such a dismal view of their futures was moving. To then see their resilience grow and then shine through at the end was uplifting.”

He added,

“It was rare that such a young company can make us laugh, sing but also cry with their portrayal  of disaffected children who view their future with despair until they are uplifted by a determined young teacher. A magical production, I was so proud of them.”
