First Hand Accounts of the War

Miss Pelizzari had two special visitors into her Year 5 class; her grandparents!
They were invited in to talk about being a child in the war and an opportunity for the girls to ask questions from primary sources.
Miss Pelizzari described what they learnt;
“They heard all about what it was like to live in London during the Blitz, my grandad talked about how they would sleep in their air raid shelter every evening and how a lot of people would go and sleep in the underground train tunnels. They also talked about what it was like for children at the time and a really nice message that came out of it was how much families and friends stuck together to help and support each other through tough times. The girls were very surprised to hear that people would sometimes queue for hours just to get their hands on an orange due to the food rationing!”
