Sailing News This Week
We are pleased to bring you some exciting news from our sailors:
Sammy, former pupil and now member of the Outdoor Education staff, competed in the RS Aero World Championships in Carnac, France, and the RS Aero National Championships at Hayling Island. He came 7th in both, and took 1st place in his class at Chichester Harbour Race Week.
Claires Court student Will competed as part of the crew of "Rona II" in the Rendez-Vouz 2017 Tall Ships Regatta, a five leg series which began in April. "Rona II" was one of only four boats to complete the full RDV 2017 series, covering more than 2000 nautical miles. "Rona II" came in ahead of the fleet with line honours, with a fantastic time of 12 days, 3 hours and 55 minutes (and 29 seconds for those counting).
Fun fact - Will isn't the first Claires Court student to win a transatlantic tall ships race aboard Rona II - Trevor Payne (Claires Court Senior Boys D&T technician) was part of the crew that sailed "Rona II" to victory back in 1992.
