Lion-ing up for Charity
During half term four of our wonderful Sixth Formers gave up their Saturday to assist the The Lions club of Maidenhead. The Lions Club were trying to make Maidonians aware of all the events they organise to raise funds for local charities and they were in desperate need of volunteers to wear the lion costume in the town centre to attract attention of passers by.
As our Sixth Form take part in events like the Swimarathon with such gusto, the Lions Club asked if Claires Court could provide the "lions" to wear the costume.
Mrs Ann Burdett, Head of Maths at Claires Court and who coordinated the event said:
“Todd Muil, Matt Hine, Chris Allen and Calum Hayes volunteered immediately and they were absolutely fantastic. They all turned up at the allotted time, wore the costume for an hour at a time each and certainly drew attention to the Lions stand. They waved at passers by and gave out balloons, posed for photos with toddlers, children (and the occasional mum - Mrs Hayes!) and were so welcoming and gentle with the children that they received literally hundreds of cuddles from excited small children and gave out plenty of hi-fives to older children. The Lions Club were absolutely thrilled with our pupils efforts and I was really proud of them. As a thank you to Todd, Matt, Chris and Calum, the Lions club want to donate £100 to whatever charity the boys would like to choose.”
