Sights and ‘Smells’ of the Stone Age
Linking to their ‘Stones and Bones’ topic, Year 3 headed to the Chiltern Open Air Museum for some fun workshops! They attended a Stone Age workshop where they met Fox, the head of the Deer Tribe.
He had to smell the girls first as he did not recognise the scent, but then realised they were no danger so was happy to show the girls around his camp. They learnt how to make fire using flints, shelter, bracelets out of plant fibre and even how to make a Stone Age tattoo out of fat and charcoal!
As well as this they attended an archaeological workshop where the girls dug up some pottery and dissected ancient poo to find out what people used to eat...
