Making Jam Tarts Like The Queen Of Hearts
This term the Reception girls are learning about rhyme. After talking about the nursery rhyme ‘The Queen of Hearts’ by author Lewis Carroll in his famous book ‘Alice in Wonderland’, they decided to make their own jam tarts. After writing their own recipe and following it to make the tarts, they were very concerned that the Knave of Hearts may steal the tarts.
With this in mind they set about making lots of posters to put around the school to keep him away. Unbelievably, the Knave managed to steal one of the tarts! They took him into the classroom and talked about how stealing is bad. At Claires Court, children follow the Golden Rules and are happy to share. The Knave knew the error of his ways and enjoyed a jam tart that the pupils gave him… all was well in the end!
The Queen of Hearts Poem
The Queen of Hearts she made some tarts all on a summer's day;
The Knave of Hearts he stole the tarts and took them clean away.
The King of Hearts called for the tarts and beat the Knave full sore
The Knave of Hearts brought back the tarts and
vowed he'd steal no more.
