Planet Discovery!

As part of their science lesson on the solar system, our Year 5 boys took to the playground to look at the scale and distance between the planets.
The pupils were provided with a premade inflatable solar system but weren’t told which planet was which. They were given fact files and information about each planet in the classroom and had to match the description to the planet.
The class then went outside to arrange themselves in planetary order and measure how far apart the planets should be if they were that size.
Amy Carter, Year 5 teacher, commented:
“Applying their learning in this practical way really helped the boys’ understanding of the solar system. They were very surprised about how far apart the planets were!”
