Held at Merchant Taylor's Prep School in Rickmansworth, the teams, one of boys and one of girls, were made up pupils who had competed against their classmates for their place.

The boys team, supported by teacher Mrs Vine, included William (Year 6), Tommy (Year 5), Joel (Year 4) and Peter (Year 3). The girls team, supported by Mrs Wardman consisted of Anya (Year 6), Lauren (Year 5), Chloe (Year 4) and Phoebe (Year 3).

The girls had a great start and remained in the top three until the final section of high scoring points. Answering the very last question correctly, on the distance of the Earth from the sun, the boys managed to swap places with girls, jumping to 7th place while the girls slipped to 9th.

Claire Wardman, Junior Girls teacher, said:

“Each team worked really well together and their behaviour was exemplary. They all showed lots of courage and risk taking as well as working well as a team. They faced some incredibly tricky questions which tested parents and teachers too!”
