Falcons Flying At Claires Court!
On Friday 23 February, Year 6 boys and girls were left in awe after a falconry display at Junior Boys, run by Falconry UK.
The morning started off with the pupils being introduced to an array of birds of prey, which included an Australian Tawny Frogmouth, a Pygmy Falcon called Rocco, and Blu, a Blue Winged Kookaburra. They were treated to a display of the birds flying, and had the opportunity to touch and hold the magnificent creatures.
Each class then took part in a workshop, where they dissected owl pellets, examined a real Ostrich egg, and learnt about the birds’ anatomy.
Anya Howard, Year 6 pupil, said:
“I was so surprised I got chosen to hold the large owl! It was extremely heavy to hold but I loved how it placed its wing over my head! It was a great experience.”
Jawad Laouira, Year 6 teacher, added:
“All the children had a great time, and seeing the birds of prey up close will be something they will always remember. The workshop was extremely informative, helping the children understand how these birds have adapted to their surroundings as well giving them a 'hands-on' opportunity to dissect some owl pellets.”
