U16 Boys Crew Win Quad Scull Event At National Junior Rowing Championships!

At this year’s National Junior Sculling Head we had more than 40 boys racing for Claires Court against young people as far away as Italy and Aberdeen.

Tom Jost, Claires Court Head of Rowing, reports:

Both our Year 9s and 10s had encouraging results and certainly learned a lot for the future. All boats from both years were middle of the pack which is encouraging for this time in the season and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the fast approaching regatta season.

Our Seniors (Years 11 to 13) had a mixed day. Three Year 11s (Charlie, Joe and Alec), along with Alex from Year 12, raced in our overall top boat in the J17 event. The boys didn’t race as well as they had hoped and came away with fourth place, just outside the medals. Our J17 B crew again had the same sort of day and were placed in the middle of the pack.

Our Year 11s without the boys from the J17 crew raced in the J16 quads event. Our hope was for them to try to place towards the top end of the rankings but the boys had other ideas. They upped their game from what we had seen in training and raced out of their skins. Off the back of this we hoped that they would be somewhere near the top end but when the results came out they had won it! This was a fantastic result for the boys and extremely encouraging for this time in the season.

So as we reach the end of the rowing winter season we are in an encouraging position for the fast approaching regatta season.
