Salters' Festival Of Chemistry

On Wednesday, four girls from Year 8 went to the Salters’ Festival of Chemistry at Queen Mary's University in London.
The girls, Scarlett, Louisa, Audrey and Olivia, were faced with two challenges on the day (without any teacher help). Firstly, they had to use forensic chemistry to catch a thief and secondly they had to use chemical reactions to make solutions in all the colours of the spectrum.
They completed both challenges and gained second place out of 15 schools on the second challenge, producing the most difficult colour of violet at the last moment.
Helen Williams, Senior Girls Head of Science, said:
“It was a great opportunity for the group to work in the university laboratories and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
