Maidenhead Junior Novice Regatta Win

On Sunday 20 May, we had a number of rowers competing at Maidenhead Junior Regatta. The most notable performance of the day came from our Junior Girls 15 Coxed Quad Scull (JW15 4x+) crew, consisting of Kate, Beth, Millie, Maddie and Kaya. This was their first competition and they received a bye in the first round when Canford School Boat Club withdrew their entry.
In the second round they were drawn against Eton Excelsior Rowing Club; our crew had a bad start and after some steering issues, they were beaten by a verdict of 1 ½ lengths. They progressed to the repechage round where they were drawn against Fulham Reach Rowing Club, after a good start and steering they overcame their opposition by a verdict of 2 lengths, and progressed to the final again meeting Eton Excelsior Rowing Club. In the final after a good start by both crews and some close side by side racing, the Claires Court Crew drew away from their opposition shortly after halfway and finished the race by a verdict of 1 ¼ lengths, for the crews first win.
This is all the more special as the team had only trained for three sessions as a crew in their PE lessons. Well done girls!
