Stanley Spencer Gallery

A trip to the Stanley Spencer Gallery in Cookham to discover one of the greatest British painters of the twentieth century, Sir Stanley Spencer, had all the Year 7 girls in awe.
They were guided around the gallery by experts on Spencer's life and the stories behind the paintings were explained. After the guided tour, the girls took the opportunity to draw from the collection and collect images for their sketchbooks.
A tour around Cookham pointing Spencer’s old house out and many of the landmarks and landscapes that Spencer painted in the local area, helped to show where Spencer got his inspiration from. The inspiring day ended with some relaxing drawing in the shade overlooking the boats and the river.
