Berkhamsted Swimming Gala

Full of anticipation and excitement, the Junior Boys swimming team left for Berkhamsted School last Thursday to compete in the Cup competition. Having finished second overall in the competition last year, the boys were keen to either match or exceed last years performance.

Karin Whiteley, Junior Boys Swimming teacher, reports on the day:

As many of the Year 6 team were at the Senior Boys Induction Evening, Year 5’s stepped in. For many of the boys, it was their first opportunity to swim at a competitive gala against other schools. The boys soon put their nerves aside and performed brilliantly.

In the individual events, Maxwell, Junwen Liw, Joshua and Jack all earned first place. Toby, Thomas, Freddie, Gursahej, Spike and Samuel all achieved second place, and George and Aaran ended third in their races. Considering Aaran, Spike and Samuel were all swimming in the year group above this was a great result.

All the boys participated in either a Medley Relay or Freestyle Relay. This is a very popular event which the boys love! The Relay teams for this particular event is comprised of two year groups combined. We finished first and third in the Freestyle Relay and third in both Medley Relays. The final Relay is a Squadron Relay which has two boys from every age group competing. This was a very noisy and exciting event which our group of eight boys won!

Despite the scorching temperature in the swimming pool the boys had a great gala and behaved beautifully. We ended up winning second overall once again and went home very happy with our gold medals. Well done boys!
