Junior Girls Prize Giving

Reported by Leanne Barlow, Head of Junior Girls:

Today we had our annual Prize Giving and despite the heat, the Junior Girls made all of us proud. Starting the afternoon was a performance like no other. Our Reception to Year 6 girls performed 'This is me' from the Greatest Showman. Not only did they perform it - they smashed it! It was emotional and quite simply exceptional. And if that wasn't enough, a group of girls (from Reception to Year 6) signed the entire song with passion and expression!

Each class performed something to showcase the year of learning they have had. Starting with our Reception butterflies and ending with our Year 6s performing - 'I'm a Year 6 pupil - get me out of here!' In between, we saw performances based on who wants to a millionaire and Gogglebox!

Sophie Deen was our speaker - she inspired us by speaking about the stories she now writes about strong women and girls who are scientists and code breakers etc. She asked us why all princesses don't do anything in fairytales? They just seem to wait to be rescued. She told us that even though Frozen is a story about two sisters, 60% of the script is spoken by men. She taught us to always ask why and to never give up.
