England Rugby Star Heather Visits Junior Boys
Junior Boys were thrilled to be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime rugby training session by Heather Fisher, England Rugby union and rugby sevens player, on Monday 1 October.
The two hour session, delivered by Heather to pupils in Year 6, focused on improving handling skills, tackling and rucking, scanning and hand-eye coordination.
George Paish, Year 6 pupil, said:
“We found the afternoon an excellent opportunity to learn from someone who has played at the very highest level. The session was really fun and we learnt some interesting skills such as scanning what is happening in front of us when passing the ball. We also played lots of small sided games that encouraged us to work together and communicate with each other.”
The boys felt inspired to be taught by Heather who, as well as representing England at the 2010, 2014, and 2016 Women’s Rugby World Cup, has competed for the GB women’s bobsleigh team. Heather made sure to impart some of her words of wisdom, and encouraged the boys to always strive to be the best they can be.
Nick Butterfield, Head of Sport at Junior Boys, added:
“Having a player of Heather's calibre come in and coach was a real treat for the pupils. While learning new skills her coaching helped underpin some of our School’s Golden Rules like listening and honesty. The pupils had a fantastic afternoon and they will have gained a lot from the experience.”
