Claires Court Awarded Renaissance Champion School Status
Renaissance Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice.
Champion schools are identified by looking at the school's adherence to best practices such as engaged reading time, percentage of students achieving 85% and above on quizzes as well as the percentage of students reading at the appropriate level.
Since implementing AR in September 2015, Claires Court Senior Girls and Boys have:
read 117,923,135 words
taken 2,714 quizzes
produced 30 Word Millionaires
Been awarded 24 Book Point Target Stars (14 Bronze, 7 Silver and 3 Gold)
Paula Copeman, Junior and Senior Girls Librarian, commented:
“Accelerated Reader puts reading choices back in the hands of the pupils, where it belongs. Our school has never believed in a ‘one size fits all’ mentality and with Accelerated Reader the pupils are in control, their choices are all valid and supported and they consider themselves readers and leaders right from the start.”
