Newquay Sports Tour U11 Girls Report

Tour report by Katie Hudson, Junior Girls PE teacher:
On the 8 November, the Junior Girls and Boys U11 A and B Teams embarked on their annual joint sports tour. Full of excitement and anticipation, even after a four hour coach journey, the girls first netball match was against St Peter's Prep in Exeter. Considering the girls had been idle for such a long time, they played extremely well, demonstrating skill and collaboration. The A team won 8-4 and the B team 13-3. After a delicious cream tea and sausage roll, it was back on the coach for the last leg of our journey to Newquay!
Friday morning came after a good night’s sleep with no disruptions - and I really do mean that! Following a hearty breakfast, it was off to the Aquarium in Newquay.
We arrived at Truro Senior School in the most awful weather. Due to the conditions the girls round robin tournament had been moved inside the sports centre, which meant they were playing indoor hockey. Indoor hockey is completely different, as the ball travels much faster and the rules are slightly different. However they were raring to play and the girls did not disappoint. The team drew and won several matches and improved their skill level and confidence on the ball.
Our A team came second overall in the tournament. Truro Prep were fantastic hosts, very kind and incredibly welcoming. Friday’s evening entertainment was bowling. Maddie and Bailey were incredibly good at bowling and drew on 92. Well done girls!
Saturday came which meant our last game of the tour. Truro Hockey Club were hosting a round robin tournament for us at Truro High School. The girls got off to a flying start, playing some excellent hockey. They used their speed and the width of the pitch to their advantage and scored many goals. The A team went on to win the tournament overall and captain Mia was presented the trophy, and the B team came fourth. Our last evening was spent in Pizza Express back in Newquay and what a wonderful evening it was to close our tour. We were then greeted by some of the boys and girls parents for our presentation evening at the Kilbirnie Hotel.
I can honestly say that this trip was one of the best trips I have been on. Each and every pupil was well mannered and acted as an excellent ambassador for Claires Court. Both pupils and teachers had a lot of fun and we all cannot wait for the next tour. Thank you to the forty boys and girls and the six staff who helped make this trip an unforgettable experience!
