G-Live Children's Concert

Year 3 Junior Boys and Girls were recently treated to a wonderful hour of music at the G-Live Children's Concert in Guildford, set in a wonderful purpose built concert hall.
The stage was set only with the chairs and music stands for an orchestra and two by two, as in the Ark, the instruments of the orchestra were introduced to the audience.
All the pieces played by the Southern Pro Musica Orchestra were wonderfully descriptive and they brought the music to life. Each piece was introduced by a brilliantly funny compere/magician who dazzled the audience with his magic, retrieving a french baguette from an oboe, producing a xylophone beater from fire and explaining binary form using a cheeseburger he had conjured up.
The children particularly enjoyed the stories set to music, especially ‘The Theatre Ghost’ which fitted perfectly with National Storytelling Week. There was a lot of audience participation, including Offenbach's ‘Can-Can’. The concert ended with the conductors’ own rousing composition of ‘It's An Ark’, which Year 3 had been learning in preparation for the concert.
Emma Stevenson, Junior Girls Head of Music, said:
“The concert was a great success and complemented our work in class on instruments in an orchestra. I am already looking forward to next year’s concert!”
