Creating Language Passports!

Every year, the MFL department collaborate with the library to take delivery of a large box of European children’s books under the Eurotoolbox scheme, which are on display in the library for some weeks.
This week Year 7 and Year 8 girls spent a language lesson exploring the books in French, German and Spanish, filling in a language ‘passport’ using new and familiar words they found in the various stories.
A story from each language was then read to the girls by a native or near native speaker - Marion (Year 10) read “Maman Renard”, a French storybook about a mother fox and her cubs getting lost in the woods; Ana (Year13) read “Mi Abuelo y Yo” about a little Spanish girl and her grandfather and Laetitia (Year 8) read “So Leicht So Schwer” about a very heavy German elephant!
Susan Lattimer, Senior Girls French teacher, said:
“It was a really enjoyable way to expand the girls’ knowledge of both European language and culture - an interesting time was had by all!”
