The Greatest Musicals Dance Show

Report by Joanne Cox, Senior Girls Head of Girls PE:

This year’s Dance Show was based on the theme of ‘Musicals’. Girls from Reception to Year 13 and a group of Senior Boys from Year 9 and 10 put on a wonderful display to approximately 600 people over the course of the three performances. Every year group performed a class dance choreographed by the PE Department, including ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson (Year 4), ‘Singing In The Rain’ (Year 9) and ‘We Will Rock You’ (Year 5).

There were solo, pair and group routines which were devised by the girls themselves, including ‘Let it Go’ from Frozen by Maddie (Year 6), ‘My Favourite Things’ from The Sound Of Music by sisters Josie (Year 3) and Ellie (Year 6), ‘Found Tonight’ from Hamilton by Hannah and Marion (Year 10) and ‘From Now On’ from The Greatest Showman by Sara and Grace (Year 8). Olivia, Katrina, Mia and Jessica (Year 6) performed a fantastic group dance to High School Musical, ‘We’re All In This Together’. A group dance of ‘Smile’ from Annie was performed by Molly, Emma and Sophie (Year 7) and the girls were also joined by the boys; Joe, Theo (Year 10), Maz and Josh (Year 9) who performed a fantastic choreographed dance to ‘Into the Hood’. There was also the added bonus of a staff dance of ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba on the Thursday Evening Show!

A Level performer Amy Walters performed a breathtaking routine of ‘Rag and Bone Man’ by Grace and the PE department would like to thank Amy for all her help and support with the show.  Amy choreographed the Year 6 class dance and assisted the younger pupils with their solo and pair routines.

The pupils provided invaluable support in the running of the shows, with the Senior Head and Deputy Head Girls (Sophie, Isabelle and Lauren) welcoming parents and sorting the ticketing and comperes Annabel, Lana (Sports Captains) and Mia (Junior Head Girl) introducing each dance with clarity, charm and confidence. A final thank you to Mr Gravett, Mr Morgan and Jaimie, Year 11 pupil, for managing the music and sound at each performance, and to the girls who assisted with the raffle ticket and popcorn selling, led by Year 7, with all monies raised going towards the Junior and Senior sports tours.

It truly was a trio of sublime performances, all girls thoroughly excelled in their dances and the PE Department are so glad that hundreds of people witnessed a truly spectacular showcase of talent.
