Learning Photography Skills

Gill, one of the official photographers for the Windsor visitor management team, visited the Sixth Form photography students to deliver a talk on her career.
Gill has covered many state visits and royal occasions in Windsor, and she shared with the students how her career has evolved into the huge, exciting success it is today. She was happy to share tips and a wealth of experience about taking photos, for example, capturing moments and moods in the quiet and stillness at dawn. Gill encouraged students to find their own style and particular focus.
She explained that the best photos come from having the confidence to break photographic rules; to learn to take control and ‘sweat’ the camera, to look for different light and perspectives, by using appropriate shutter speeds and polarizing filters to create a sense of depth and breadth. She recommended preparing for photoshoots thoroughly in advance to be in a position to get the best shots. She said that ultimately, lots of practice, experimenting and taking risks will all contribute to great end results!
