Hatching Egg-citement

There were some new classmates in Junior Boys last week when Year 1 had the opportunity to meet and stroke some fluffy chicks!

Thomas has been busy hatching nine eggs at home and was eager for his peers to meet the chicks, bringing four into school last week. This was a great opportunity to learn more about chickens, discovering how a ‘pecking order’ helps to decide who will be top chick when they are older. Pupils also found it funny finding out that chickens have a ‘dirt bath’ which helps kill any nasty creepy crawlies that they might have on them!

Stacey Bannister, Junior Boys teaching assistant, said:

“Safe to say the boys are in love with them and keep checking on them to make sure they are okay and warm enough!”
