The Real Downton Abbey
Before half term, Year 4 girls and boys were guests at the magnificent Highclere Castle, more recently known as the location for Downton Abbey!
The day was full of adventure and exploration; pupils were treated to a tour of the ‘Secret Gardens’ which were used to film the eponymic film. The girls and boys also enjoyed learning about the former owner of Highclere Castle, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, who in 1922 along with archaeologist Howard Carter, discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in Egypt. Delving into the Egyptian Exhibition, pupils discovered both real and replica artefacts of tombs and wall paintings, as well as a real Egyptian mummy!
Roselyn Mckee, Junior Girls teaching assistant, commented:
“The children were given a chance to dress up as Egyptian kings and queens and tried a variety of craft activities.”
