Feeling the Pulse in Sixth Form

An experiment has been undertaken by Sixth Form Biology students to access the impact that exercise can have on the pulse rate on young adults.
With a number of willing volunteers from Sixth Form, the investigation looked at whether short duration, low and moderate exercise would have a significant impact on the test subject’s heart rates. Using the ergometer rowing machines, the volunteers were asked to exercise for three minutes at varying intensities which were recorded and compared to their resting heart rates. Upon analysing the data, Year 12 pupil, Alasdair, concluded “that a high level of exercise increases the heart rate of young adults”.
