A Day of Discovery at Senior Girls

Girls in Year 5 from other schools came to Claires Court on Wednesday 15 June to discover more about life at Senior Girls and partake in a survival day.
Following an exciting ‘shipwreck’ theme in the morning the girls took part in sailing and canoeing activities, with the aim of getting to safety on an island before heading over to science! On the island (a lab in school) the girls found tomatoes. However as the group were stranded high in the mountains they had to work out how to safely get the tomatoes to the bottom of the island by completing the ‘Squashed Tomatoes Challenge’. There were some very creative ideas including a backpack to carry the tomatoes down and a parachute! The girls also turned some contaminated water into drinking water before going outside to build fires and cook up a meal using limited ingredients.
Paul Bevis, Head Teacher said, “It was a delight to welcome so many Year 5 girls from other schools to our Senior Girls Discovery Day. For some it was a huge challenge, learning new things in a new environment, however they all showed great teamwork and resilience throughout. It was a fun packed day and they all left with big smiles on their faces and new friends to stay in contact with.
