A Toy’s Story

From Barbie to Lego, toys evoke fond memories from childhood, providing not just entertainment but early learning opportunities. A recent visit from ‘Toys in School’ had Year 1 girls reflecting on the story of toys, considering how they have adapted over time, looking in particular at traditional wooden toys.
A busy morning saw pupils craft their own moving toy using hammers and drills under supervision to create items such as jumping acrobats, pecking chickens, ball and cup games and pull along toys, before giving them a thorough test! Applying Science to the fun, pupils examined what forces the toys used and the materials they were made from!
Lindsay King, Acting Head of Junior Girls, commented:
“They had a wonderful time making their own toys and I’m sure they were glad to bring them home and tell their family about their day!”
