Checkmate at the PTA Chess Festival
The annual PTA Chess Festival was the 19th time Claires Court has hosted a London qualifying event and, needless to say with the help of our PTA and other volunteers, it proved to be another successful event!
By the time late entries had been added, we were pushing up towards 60 competitors. Accompanied by their parents, this made for a great day.
Whilst Claires Court led the way in the number of competitors from any one school, we were unable to turn this into a victory in the schools' competition due to the outstanding performance of some brothers from Southampton who pushed us into second place.
Richard Hogg, Junior Boys chess teacher, praised the pupils:
“The tournament field was extremely strong but all the Claires Court pupils who played earned some pleasing results against good players.”
