Building Connections Across the Globe
There was excitement in the Modern Foreign Languages Department this week when our Year 9 and 10 Senior Girls received a reply from their pen pals from Murcia, Spain.
Partnering with El Carmen School for their pen pal project, our Spanish linguists were thrilled to receive letters from their peers in Spain. The girls had written to pupils in El Carmen School earlier in the term, practising their Spanish and were ready for the challenge of reading and translating their pen pals' replies.
The pupils will write back in English and are already looking forward to receiving more news from the secondary school in the South East of Spain. The class has also exchanged pictures and videos, and are planning a video conference to chat face to face soon!
Eva Urzaiz, Senior Girls Spanish teacher, spoke of the benefits of the pen pal project: “Becoming pen pals with international pupils is a great way to improve and consolidate language skills, whilst bringing global awareness to the forefront of our pupils’ studies. It is also a great opportunity to make new friends.”
