The race of the Zodiac
As celebrations of the Lunar New Year rung in across the world, our Junior Boys from Year 1 marked the occasion when they learned all about the zodiac race and Chinese culture.
Pupils hosted a New Year party in which they discussed the animals that make up the zodiac, creating masks for each animal. The boys also created their own traditional ‘lucky red envelopes’ and were surprised to have found a treat waiting for them inside!
There was also an opportunity to try and taste a range of authentic food which included vegetable spring rolls, crispy seaweed, chow mein noodles and green tea. Pupils also enjoyed a glimpse at their future as they opened their fortune cookies.
Bethan Morris, Junior Boys Year 1 teacher, spoke of the value of the experience: “By hosting a party, the boys were introduced to the costumes and cuisine of another culture in a fun and exciting way. Learning about different cultures fosters an understanding of others in what is an increasingly global world.”
