Eggcellent Time at a Chicken Farm
The Reception girls were very lucky to be invited to one of their classmates farms. Pupil Florence lives in Waltham St Lawrence on a chicken farm with 6000 chickens!
Suzanne James, Reception Teacher said;
“Mr and Mrs McArdle showed us around the farm and then took us to where the eggs are sorted on the egg belt where we saw a variety of sizes, colours and shapes.
We were told that the chickens lay on average one egg a day, so that's 6000 per day on the McArdle farm! The eggs are of such good quality that they are used at The Ritz and The Wolseley hotels in London.
Mrs McArdle very kindly gave us some eggs to take back to school and we had an 'eggcellent' afternoon cooking omelettes as well as fried, boiled and scrambled eggs. We would like to say a huge 'Thank You' to Mr and Mrs McArdle for inviting us to their farm and taking the time to show us around.
