The great CC bake off

Senior Boys recently proved that they could stand the heat as they enjoyed some time in the kitchen for the ‘House Bake Off’.

Competing for their respective houses, Kelly, Rowanhurst, St Lawrence and Ridgeway, pupils and staff cooked up a storm creating a range of delicious sweet and savoury treats, ranging from banana bread, pies, sponge cakes, and even meringues.

Pupils have continued to participate in their house competition throughout lockdown as part of Claires Court’s varied distance learning and digital curriculum which has placed emphasis not only on academic study but also includes a number of creative and stimulating extra-curricular activities.

Special mention should be made of the staff entries, especially Mrs Tarr, who baked her first ever cake. She even made it with red icing, in tribute to the red of Rowanhurst! Ms Mirza decided to honour Rowanhurst's Head of House, with a realistic depiction of leader Mrs Ging.

The judges deliberated long and hard, looking at complexity, visuals and how tasty the entries looked. Mr Bowen's rainbow sponge cupcakes were the staff winner, with Mrs Wadsworth a close second.

In the boys' competition, Luke's (Year 7) 'Marble Cake' and Jack's (Year10) ‘Smarties Cake' were excellent runners-up. Teddy’s (Year 8) 'Magic Maltesers Cake' was the favourite with the Bake-Off judges.

"It was great to see so many boys and staff get involved, and we clearly have some talented bakers at Senior Boys," said Michael Hudson, organising the House competition. "It looks like everyone had fun at home with this task. The judges and I can't wait to get back to school, if only to repeat the competition and actually get to sample the entries next time!"

Whet your appetite and check out the entries here.
