Junior Boys Swimming Galas
This summer the Claires Court Junior Boys Swimming Gala took place across four days. The Year 5 boys kicked off proceedings on Monday 13 June in the morning and the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 gala took place on Friday 17 June. Year 6 had their turn Monday 20 June and finally Year 3 and Year 4 finished the gala swimming season on Friday 24 June.
Mrs Karen Whiteley, Swimming Teacher at Junior Boys summarises the events;
“Unfortunately the weather didn't allow for us to open the swimming pool roof during the first three galas which made for a steamy subtropical atmosphere inside, however there were many parents who joined us to support their boys. They were first treated to coffee and croissants in the dining room after which they were ready to enjoy the swimming!
The reception boys were divided into three groups according to their ability and had the opportunity to show off their skills during a fifteen minute demonstration lesson lead by myself and Mrs Morgan. All the older boys swam races expertly started by Mr Barber, including woggle races and relays. They were timed by Year 5 and 6 pupils who did a wonderful job under supervision of Mrs Morgan.
Members of staff all pulled together to make sure the galas ran smoothly and on time.
It was a delight to see how much the boys enjoyed themselves and how hard they worked. This year was the first time all year groups had a swimming gala and hopefully we will be able to continue this tradition in the future.”
