Outdoor Science Investigations
Pupils have been to Ray Mill Island for some scientific investigative work.
Year 9 boys went to measure the effect of light intensity on the distribution of daisies for their required practicals in GCSE Biology. It wasn’t all work though, as there was just enough time to fit in an ice cream before they returned to school as they had worked so well!
Year 12 Biologists also explored the island last week. They were required to do an investigation on the effect of an abiotic factor (light intensity) on the distribution and abundance of an organism (daisies or Bellis perennis).
Unfortunately they got rather wet on the way back in a sudden downpour and there was definitely no time for an ice cream!
