The race for knowledge
Whilst the world has to wait another year for the Tokyo Olympic Games to take place, our budding Olympians have lost no time in learning more about the games and some of its participants.
Delving into the history of the Olympics, the boys talked about where they originated, how they have changed and the difference between the winter and summer Olympics. They also considered what an athlete is and their journey to Olympics with focus on gold medal British runner Dame Kelly Holmes. Looking at her life, the boys learned all about Kelly’s resilience, the ups and the downs of her career, her ambition to be in the army and watched her compete in a number of races.
Poonam Bharj, Junior Boys Trainee Teacher commented: “The boys were excited to learn about the Olympics and watch Kelly race, they worked hard in pairs to produce posters about Kelly's life. We discussed risk taking and her life motto 'nothing is impossible'.”
