Claires Court launches 12 days of Christmas competition online

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and Claires Court is kicking December off in style with the launch of the 12 days of Christmas countdown online competition.

Pupils, staff, families and friends of the school were invited to reimagine the 12 days of Christmas by drawing, crafting, sculpting and acting out their chosen day of the popular Christmas song. With over 30 entries submitted, the competition now begins in earnest with the entries featured on the school’s facebook page and the public asked to vote for their favourite creation for each of the 12 days.

The competition challenged participants of all ages to use their imagination to create, in their own unique way, one of the days 12 days listed in the song:

  • A partridge in a pear tree

  • Two turtle doves

  • Three French hens

  • Four calling birds

  • Five gold rings

  • Six geese a-laying

  • Seven swans a-swimming

  • Eight maids a-milking

  • Nine ladies dancing

  • Ten lords a-leaping

  • Eleven pipers piping

  • Twelve drummers drumming.

James Wilding, Academic Principal, said: “With such a different year and the current lockdown, we’re delighted to invite all the local community both inside and outside the school to use arts, craft and creativity to take part in representing the 12 days of Christmas, which we thought would make some family fun during the current lockdown. Now the efforts will be showcased and recognised online, hopefully bringing a smile to all.”

The voting will take place across the Claires Court Facebook page with a shortlist for each day posted online throughout December (from Tuesday 1 December to Saturday 12 December), counting down to the end of term and the start of the Christmas holiday. To vote for your winner all you need to do is like and share the entry’s post. The entry with the most likes and shares by the end of the day will be crowned the winner for that day. Starting with day one, a partridge in a pear, the shortlisted entries for each of the 12 days will be posted online at 8am with voting closing at 12midnight. The 12 winners will be announced on the last day of term on Wednesday 16 December and will be given a festive prize, as well as being included in the 12 days of Christmas compilation.
