Medal Winning Reads
There was a change from the usual 'Books and Biscuits' at the Girls' Book Club meetings last week... more 'Champions and Cakes'!!
Junior and Senior Girls celebrated the announcement of the winners of the 2016 CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals, the oldest and most prestigious UK book awards.
Sarah Crossan's 'poignant and perfectly crafted' verse novel 'One' about conjoined twins took this year's Carnegie Medal and Chris Riddell became the first ever triple winner of either award, winning the Kate Greenaway Medal for his illustrations of Neil Gaiman's retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, 'The Sleeper and the Spindle'. Riddell is also the first reigning Children's Laureate to win either Medal.
Paula Copeman,
“All the girls who 'shadowed' the official award, by reading and voting for their own favourite book, were rewarded for all their hard work and enthusiasm. With eight books on each award shortlist, all the girls involved are our own reading champions!”
