Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Rugby development programme launched

A new rugby development programme is launching at Claires Court school for sixth formers to train and take their rugby to the next level.

The school is working with professional rugby clubs to offer a development programme for Year 12/13 students. The programme is in addition to academic A-level and BTEC courses to help aspiring rugby players develop with the aim of playing elite rugby in the future. The programme includes individual and small group coaching, personalised strength and conditioning training as well as nutrition and sports psychology support, alongside the school’s well established 1st XV midweek fixture programme.

Simon Carter, Director of Rugby and Head of Physical Education, said: “We appreciate many rugby players at 16 or 17 years old are looking to continue their academic studies as well as have a greater focus on their rugby playing aspirations.

“Our new rugby development programme fits alongside our normal academic programme and will give players access to up to six hours additional rugby specific training throughout the week as well as three hours 1st XV training and midweek fixtures (during non-lockdown times). The programme also includes video analysis, performance target setting and the option to gain RFU coaching and officiating qualifications. Players will be able to continue to play for their own clubs and Developing Player Programme.

Rugby photographRaphael Siegner, a student already enrolled on the programme, said: “I'm excited to take part in this programme because of the rare opportunity it presents us. I can't wait to develop my game in every aspect like I have never done before.”

Will Keylock, another student, added: “"The Claires Court Rugby Development Programme will help me improve all areas of rugby and it also helps me continue to develop my education further. "
