Former Claires Court student hosts Radio 1 show for the second time

Former Claires Court student, Sam MacGregor, has been invited back to Radio 1 to present the early morning Breakfast show, with co-host Danni Diston, for the month of June.
After impressing producers with their presenting skills on Radio 1’s ‘Life Hacks show and Official Chart: First Look’ in December 2020, the presenting partners have been invited back to present on Radio 1 Dance and Friday Early Breakfast between from 4am to 6.30am during June 2021, warming up for radio royalty Greg James. This was after Sam and Danni were selected to be a part of BBC Radio 1’s Christmas Presenter Search back in 2020.
Sam, 22 years old, commented: “We’re buzzing to be invited back to Radio 1 after our Christmas show. We had such a great time covering Life Hacks & The Official Chart: First Look and we can’t wait to jump behind the mics together again. It’s an absolute privilege to present on the station that we grew up listening to and a dream gig. We’re so excited to wake up with the early morning crew and this time… we’ll be setting at least 50 alarms each.”
He added; "I’m truly grateful for all the support and encouragement I’ve received both past and present from Claires Court - thank you.”
Sam and Danni, both now based in Cardiff, started presenting together on a community station and hosted Radio 1’s Life Hacks and The Official Chart: First Look on Radio 1 together in December 2020. Danni currently works as a teaching assistant at a school for children with special educational needs, while Sam freelances in production for BBC Radio Wales and runs the social media for international food sharing app, OLIO.
James Wilding, Academic Principal, added: “We’re all so proud, yet not surprised, that Sam and Danni have been invited back to Radio 1 after their amazing performance over Christmas. All students at Claires Court are taught to aim high, believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. It makes us exceptionally proud to see Sam living his. We will be tuning in during June to listen.”
