The return of sport fixtures!

With Covid-19 restrictions easing, we are able to see a glimpse of normal school life return. One thing we are sure of is that all students and staff have missed fixtures! This past half term, we have seen the slow introduction of these in the calendar, ensuring we can compete in Covid secure ways while still enjoying the socialising and friendly competitiveness that comes with it. We look forward to next half term where we have lots more planned! Until then, please take a look at what our students have been taking part in so far.

Junior Boys

Junior Boys have loved taking part in Cricket fixtures again against Davenies and Gayhurst. In their first match, sadly their biggest competition was the weather resulting in an early finish. However, it was a hugely enjoyable intro back to the cricket pitch and more recently, the sunshine has thankfully returned and they are loving getting to know, and playing against other local schools.

Junior Girls

Whilst the Junior Boys have been competing on land, our Junior Girls have taken to the water! The girls have taken part in multiple swimming galas against other schools with parents invited to watch for the first time this year (from outside the pool, while wearing masks). To add to the excitement, the girls managed to break four Swimming School records! Well done!

  • Year 6 Backstroke - C Hunt
  • Year 6 Backstroke - I Morgan
  • Year 5 Backstroke - C Fleischer
  • Year 5 Front Crawl - C Burfitt

Senior Girls

Our Senior Girls have been busy taking part in Rounders, Netball and Tennis fixtures this half term. Over lockdown the girls had continued training independently and improving their play and techniques  and this was evident when taking part in their fixtures. They finished with some fantastic wins and showed brilliant sportsmanship throughout.

 Senior Boys

Cricket has also been an exciting part of school life for the Senior Boys. Two Senior Boys have also been very successful in Rugby, with Harrison A being selected for the Berkshire U12’s this season, and Connor P playing as part of the London Irish Academy. In addition, the Senior Boys have three quads competing in the National Schools’ Regatta with the Championship being held at Dorney Lake this weekend (29 - 30 May).

 Sixth Form

In the Sixth Form, our students have been taking part in Cricket. The 1st XI were well set to record a win against Leighton Park thanks to the unbroken partnership of 177 by Will D and Ethan J before rain finished the game.

The students also enjoyed playing one football match this past half term against Burnham GS. It would be true to say that there was a lot of excitement about this fixture as for many it was their last chance to represent the school. It turned out to be an entertaining game with a twist at the end. With 30 seconds on the clock, Burnham GS threw everyone forward including the goalkeeper, aiming to send the ball high into the Claires Court penalty area from the restart. There was a miskick and the ball ran straight to one of our players who gently rolled the ball into the empty net. Claires Court finished with a 5-3 win! Goals were scored by Rhys A (2), Harry K-W, Matt H and Tom B.

All in all, a very much welcome return to the sports that we love, we can't wait for the next half of summer term!
